Susilo Siswoutomo, Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, said that total geothermal power capacity in Indonesia this year stood at around 1,360 MWe. He added that the target for 2020 stood at 6,600 MWe, hence every year there should be a growth of 300 to 500 MWe in geothermal power.

He said that Indonesia has geothermal power potential and reserves of over 28.6 GW, in 299 locations across Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Halmahera and West Papua. He asked all parties to assist the government in realizing the vast potentials.

There will be an update on geothermal energy in Indonesia as part of a session of International Updates at the GRC Annual Meeting & GEA Expo, Sept.29- Oct.2 at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
