Another City Joins Proposed Sonoma Clean Power Authority (news.sonomaportal.com)

Sonoma city is the 5th to join the new power agency which promises to utilize geothermal energy from The Geysers geothermal field

The Sonoma city council Monday put the city into Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) authority with a unanimous vote to join the public program when it amps up in January.

Sonoma becomes the fifth city to join the county-owned power agency, which promises more electricity supplied from clean, renewable resources than PG&E. SCP will start service with 33% renewable power in 2014 and, by 2018, SCP will deliver 50% renewable power.

SCP’s goal is to keep rates comparable with PG&E rates while providing a greener product sourced from wind, geothermal and small hydroelectric projects. PG&E will continue to handle transmission, metering, customer service, billing and repairs.
