Peru's energy and mines ministry on Friday authorized the local unit of Italy's Enel Green Power SpA to carry out geothermal exploration in Carumas district, in the southern Moquegua region.
The project, located in the Chilata area, does not require negotiations with indigenous communities, as there is no such organisation in this place, the ministry said.
The permit is for three years. The exploration works will start after Enel Green Power Peru concludes an environmental study and obtains approval from the respective authority.
