Exploring Indonesia’s Rich Geothermal Potential (Jakarta Globe)

Indonesia has been known globally for its serious concern towards the climate change issue. Two years after hosting the 2007 Bali Climate Change Conference, Indonesia pledged to reduce 26 percent to 41 percent the greenhouse gas emissions from business as usual by 2020.

Developing renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency are two of the seven main actions which were set up by the Indonesian government to reach the ambitious target.

Fortunately, Indonesia has abundant sources of clean and sustainable energy such as solar, hydrothermal and geothermal. These sources are expected to be able to support the country’s emission reduction target. Among all of the renewable energy potentials endowed, one of the most prospective to be explored is the geothermal energy.
