7 Die in Landslide at Leyte Geothermal Plant (Philippine Star)

UPDATE: The number of casualties of a landslide that marred operations in a geothermal power plant in Leyte has risen to 13 as of Wednesday morning, March 6.

The landslide occurred at a project site of the Energy Development Corp. (EDC) in Kananga town, Leyte March 1.

The victims worked for JA Arradaza Construction, a subcontractor of First Balfour, on a rig at EDC’s Pad 403 at the Upper Mahiao geothermal plant in the Leyte Geothermal Production Field in the mountains of Kananga.

In a statement, the EDC said two weeks of rains triggered the landslide.

On January 26, 6 workers were killed in a landslide at a PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Site in Jambi province, on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
