Of the renewable energy options available to the Philippines, geothermal energy ranks as the most familiar, established, and supported means of power generation.
With a capacity of around 1,904 MWe, we currently rank second in the world in terms of geothermal electricity production, behind the United States, according to the U.S. GEA. Moreover, we are one of a few countries that generate more than 15 percent of their electrical output from geothermal sources―in our case, around 17 percent.
Our government has plans to install enough capacity to overtake America’s current capacity.
