Osterloh, an environmental studies major, did her senior thesis research on the geothermal potential of the Snake River plain in Southern Idaho. "There’s an incredible amount of heat under the earth’s surface in the interior West, providing hot springs and possibly geothermal energy opportunities, though the work has a number of useful applications", she said. Jessy has included the research as an entry in this year’s National Geothermal Student Competition.
Jessy was a member of a team that came third in last year’s National Geothermal Student Competition, sponsored by the Department of Energy, doing a study of the Rio Grande Rift Valley of Colorado and New Mexico. This year's competition will judge the final three contestants at the 2012 GRC Annual Meeting to be held at the Peppermill Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada, September 30-October 3.
