President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Monday that he hoped more Indonesian students would study geothermal energy in New Zealand, which is a leader on the subject.
Yudhoyono was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key in Jakarta on Tuesday.
“We are hoping that there will be cooperation projects between universities of the two countries. Hopefully, Indonesian students will be able to take several subjects that New Zealand is famous for, like geothermal studies,” he said.
Key has said that investment in Indonesia’s geothermal sector was among the top priorities of the two countries. Indonesia was home to approximately 90 percent of worldwide geothermal potential, while New Zealand was one of the world’s biggest geothermal producers.
