Job Vacancy - USA, California:

Exciting Opportunity for a Geothermal Postdoctoral Researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (American Geophysical Union)

The Earth Science Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher available through the Geothermal Program. This postdoctoral position will span the areas of physical chemistry and the earth sciences, exploring fundamental processes related to the change in fracture surface area induced by well stimulation with the goal of quantifying the change using natural chemical and isotopic tracers. Also it offers a chance to work with a highly interdisciplinary team, and will require strong motivation and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Geological Postdoctoral Researcher - Geothermal - 74147
Organization: ES-Earth Sciences

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will:
  • Conduct research in the area of hydrothermal geochemistry.
  • Execution of basic wet chemistry and experimental design and execution using high T&P experimental equipment.
  • Geochemical modeling of the results obtained.
  • Mineral surface characterization using methods such as atomic force microscopy and optical spectroscopy.
  • Preparation of research publications (both oral and written) on experimental results.
  • Communicate results in group meetings and participate in professional activities, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with graduate students and undergraduate assistants in the laboratory.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. (within the last two years) in geochemistry or chemistry.
  • Strong background in hydrothermal fluid-rock interaction experiments and geochemical modeling is critical.
  • Familiarity with scanning probe microscopy and associated characterization techniques.
  • A self-motivating spirit, independent attitude, and the ability to communicate and coordinate efforts between multiple groups is essential.
  • Ability to communicate results effectively, both oral and written.
  • Experience in analytical geochemistry using ICP-ES, ICP-MS and ion chromatography.
