The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest recently completed a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for geothermal leasing on around 615,230 acres on the Bridgeport, Austin, Tonopah, and Ely Ranger Districts.

The goal of this proposal is to identify appropriate sources for clean and renewable energy while minimizing impacts to National Forest lands.

This DEIS has a 45-day comment period that began December 30, 2011, the date that the Federal Register announced the availability of this document. Comments will be accepted until February 13, 2012. The full proposal, including maps of the proposed areas, is available online at fs.usda.gov/goto/htnf/geothermal
