El Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) decidió adelantar un mes la integración de la Planta Geotérmica Las Pailas II al Sistema Eléctrico Nacional (SEN) debido a los efectos que ha tenido en la generación hidroeléctrica la sequía que atraviesa el país.

Según informó la empresa estatal mediante un comunicado, el proyecto de 55 megavatios de capacidad instalada entrará en operaciones en mayo y no en junio como se tenía inicialmente previsto, convirtiéndose en la primera planta geotérmica de Costa Rica con el 100% de sus pozos perforados con técnica direccional y no vertical.
