USA, California: Calpine Employees Evacuated and Accounted For at The Geysers

Some of the geothermal facilities at The Geysers in Lake County were damaged as the 61,000-acre, fast-moving Valley Fire continued burning erratically Monday, officials with the agency that operates the complex said.

The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, but all non-essential employees were evacuated and accounted for after flames reached some structures over the weekend, said Brett Kerr, a spokesman for Calpine, the agency that runs the plants.

A few buildings, possibly wooden cooling towers at a handful of plants, were damaged and crucial workers remained at the site working alongside firefighters with the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Kerr said.
