Switzerland: Geothermal Energy Project to Break Ground This Year

The deep geothermal energy project Lavey-Les-Bains is progressing without any opposition (CSD Engineers)

The Lavey deep geothermal project was publicly announced in January by the municipalities of Lavey-Morcles (VD) and St-Maurice (VS). No objections were received, which is remarkable for a project of this size. The start of its construction is scheduled for the end of 2019. CSD Engineers is leading this innovative project for the AGEPP SA consortium.

Prior to this public launch, the Lavey-Les-Bains deep geothermal project had received a positive assessment from the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment and all departments of the canton of Vaud.

The start of the construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2019.

The project will make optimum use of the potential of the country's largest known hydrothermal resource. It is in line with the Confederation's Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to increase local renewable energies. Around 900 households are to be supplied with electricity and the baths in Lavey with geothermal water and thermal energy. In the longer term, the the residual heat will be recovered via district heating networks.
