Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC) has secured the lease area for the geothermal power generation project in Menengai for 40 years.
Speaking at the site, Managing Director Joseph Ole Nchoe said that Kenya Forest Service has granted them the rights and would go a long way to developing the project which is of national importance.
The last hurdle has been addressed after the African Development Bank offered to offer credit guarantees to the three Independent Power Producers to each start the process of constructing 35-megawatts capacity power plant.
The GDC MD expects that the three IPPs will complete construction of the power plants and start generating 105 megawatts to the national grid by end of next year.
