Three Independent Power Producers were contracted by GDC to put up power plants in Menengai to generate 105 MW.

The three comprising Sosian Energy, Quantum East Africa and Or Power were to each generate 35 MW. GDC says the first phase of this project is in the last stages of development and would be injected to the national grid by March next year.
