Philippines: EDC Brings Leyte Geothermal Power Plants Back Online After Earthquake

Earthquake hits EDC’s nine-month profit (Sun.Star)

Energy Development Corp. (EDC), the country’s largest geothermal and wind energy company, yesterday said consolidated recurring net income attributable to equity holders of the parent fell 6.5 percent to P6.6 billion for the first nine months of 2017, from P7 billion in the same period last year.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the company said it had been impacted by the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that hit Leyte island last July 6. During the earthquake, EDC’s Leyte business unit, the largest of the company’s operating units, was generating at almost 540 MW.

All major units have been brought back to service, except for two 60 MW units in its Mahanagdong geothermal plant.
