Russia: 1.9 GW of Renewable Energy Projects to Be Auctioned

Russia Inaugurates Its Biggest Ever Renewable Energy Auction (Resource Global Network)

Russia is aiming to kickstart its renewables industry by auctioning off contracts to companies willing to purchase 1.9 GW of clean electricity, in its biggest ever tender for renewable energy.

The government tender will run from May 29 to June 9 in two stages, and has attracted the interest of Finland’s largest energy company Fortum Oyj, along with Enel SpA of Italy.

Adnan Amin, director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), said: “Russia has had a long history of leadership in the energy sector and now has the opportunity to extend that leadership into renewable energy.”
