Staff from the California Energy Commission’s Geothermal Grant and Loan Program will conduct a workshop on January 18, 2017, to review program participation requirements and discuss project planning in advance of the program’s upcoming GRDA – Mineral Recovery from Geothermal Brines grant funding project solicitation.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for interested parties to learn about the GRDA Program and the requirements specific to this special solicitation being offered pursuant to Senate Bill 1074 (Hueso, Chapter 539, Statutes of 2016), which authorizes funding for projects to recover lithium, metals, agricultural products, and other beneficial minerals from highly mineralized geothermal brines at existing geothermal facilities that are in disadvantaged communities and provide local employment opportunities. During this workshop, staff will discuss project planning considerations, including requirements for project compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In addition to staff presentations, the workshop will include time for discussion and questions from participants.
