University of Hawaii to Start Hualalai Geothermal Study (KITV Honolulu)
In search of a natural power source on the Big Island the University of Hawaii gets the green light to conduct a hi-tech geothermal study.
KITV4's Mike Cherry reports how it could lead to man-made activity on another big island volcano.
The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, researcher Nicole Lautze, with the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, said in her application. Lautze said that the Hualalai exploration is the first exploration permit in what will be an overall effort referred to as the “Geothermal Resources Exploration Plan for Hawaii.”
