New Geothermal Greenhouses to Be Built in Dagestan (FreshPlaza)

One of the advantages encouraging the development of greenhouse business in Dagestan is its geothermal energy resources


30 hectares of new greenhouses for growing vegetables, using geothermal heat resources, are to be built in Dagestan, a federal subject of Russia, - Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic Sharip Sharipov has informed.

The Republic is self-sufficient in vegetables and exports 500-600 thousand MT to other regions of the country. Most of these products consists of vegetables grown in the open ground, while the share of greenhouse grown vegetables is relatively small. Therefore, during the past two years our priority has been the construction of greenhouses for growing vegetables, said Sharipov.

Dagestan has signed a number of agreements to attract investors from Azerbaijan, Spain, Iran, and Israel for the construction of greenhouses. The Republic is currently negotiating with an Israeli company Yamko Yadpaz Industries LTD a project of building a three-hectare greenhouse and a logistics center in the Kayakent region of the republic.

One of the advantages encouraging the development of greenhouse business in Dagestan is its geothermal energy resources. Having examined the geothermal wells, the local authorities identified the suitable areas for the building sites.
