New Bill Opens Room for Geothermal Power Development in Indonesia (Indonesia Investments)

This new bill is expected to be a great leap in the development of geothermal power in Southeast Asia’s largest economy

Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) passed an important geothermal bill in a plenary session on Tuesday. This new bill is expected to be a great leap in the development of geothermal power in Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Indonesia contains the world's largest geothermal energy reserves. Meanwhile, amid robust economic growth, the country is in serious need to provide more electricity and power to its people and businesses.

The passing of the new bill is an indication that the Indonesian government and parliament have fully realized the potential of geothermal energy for power generation in the world’s 16th largest economy and the world’s fourth most populous country after China, India and the USA. The bill was first proposed by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the DPR on 13 August 2013.
