USA, California:

A California state Senate bill crucial to the economic development at the Salton Sea was passed by the state senate yesterday.

Senate Bill 1139 would require California’s electric utilities to procure a proportionate share of a total of 500 megawatts of energy from geothermal power plants by 2024, and in so doing, revive that industry.

According to protocol the bill was read a third time. A vote was taken and the bill was subsequently passed. (Ayes 21. Noes 11.) The bill is now ordered to be heard in the Assembly.
