Prime Minister Announces Big Geothermal Project for Stoke-on-Trent (Stoke Sentinel)

David Cameron: City Deal and geothermal project can help Stoke-on-Trent become a manufacturing powerhouse


The Prime Minister's statement comes after news of a £32.8 million 'city deal' for Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire was announced today.

The deal will see a Powerhouse Central project for North Staffordshire, which will include a major geothermal development aimed at delivering jobs and cheaper energy for consumer's in the region.

Mr Cameron said: "Today’s City Deal will hand the people of Stoke-on-Trent the power and freedom they need to grow their local economy and turn the city into a world- leading manufacturing powerhouse.

The deal will help create the UK’s first large-scale geothermal project in the city by drilling for water to convert to electricity and provide cheaper energy supplies to city firms; and provide cheaper energy for people living in the Hanley area.
