Monday, December 9
China: New Geothermal District Heating Network Launched in Shaanxi Province - The project utilises non-interference geothermal heating technology and medium-deep geothermal energy to provide a clean heat source. Using metal conduit and a heat exchange medium, heat (but not water) is taken from deep underground (two to three km in depth) where there are stores of geothermal energy at a temperature of 70°C – 120°C.

Finland: Helsinki Utility to Start Exploration for Deep Geothermal District Heating Resource - Helen is charting potential areas that are geologically suitable for extracting geothermal heat and lend themselves to possible deep drilling. Helen is starting the geophysical exploration of the bedrock in the Central Park area jointly with GTK in early December. The aim is to investigate the bedrock structure to the depth of about 5-8 kilometres.

Tuesday, December 10
Turkey: Thermal Energy Storage to be Demonstrated at Kızıldere Geothermal Field - Zorlu Energy is planning to increase its power plant availability and efficiency with the demonstration of thermal energy storage systems and increasing the heat extraction from the reservoir by decreasing the injection temperatures.

Austria: Geothermal Energy Session at European Geosciences Union General Assembly - Submit Abstracts - Session ERE2.6: Exploration, utilization and monitoring of conventional and unconventional geothermal resources.

Wednesday, December 11
USA, Washington D.C.: Dan Brouillette is New Secretary of Energy - Secretary Brouillette served in the U.S. Army and has three decades of experience in both the public and private sector, most recently as the Deputy Secretary of Energy. The Secretary was joined at the White House today by his wife, Adrienne, and their nine children.

Climate Change: Countries Need to be Increasingly Ambitious in Pledges to Scale Up Renewables - IRENA - Countries need to be increasingly ambitious in their pledges to scale up renewables and cut energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The first round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) pledged under the Paris Agreement have proven inadequate to meet climate goals.

Thursday, December 12
Climate Change: UN Secretary-General Says Low-Carbon Economy Would Create Renewable Energy Jobs and Boost Growth - "The New Climate Economy tells us that shifting to a low-carbon economy represents a USD 26 trillion growth opportunity that could create 65 million new jobs by 2030. Today, the fastest-growing job creators in several economies are those related to solar, wind and geothermal energy and related businesses," he said.

Friday, December 13
Mexico: Food Company Launched Using Geothermal Heat to Dehydrate Product - Five Mexican energy engineer specialists built a food dehydrator that uses geothermal energy to dehydrate fruits and vegetables, giving producers a new opportunity to market their product before it is lost.

Croatia: MB Holding Plans Another 100 MW Geothermal Power Plants - The company's local unit MB Geothermal, holds licences for geothermal exploration in four areas in northern Croatia, news daily Poslovni Dnevnik reported.
