Public-private geothermal project to take off soon (The New Straits Times)
A geothermal project in Tawau, located in the northern portion of the island of Borneo, worth hundreds of millions of ringgit, is in the process of implementation involving public-private sector collaboration.
Chief Secretary to the Malaysian Government, Datuk Seri Ali Hamsa said one of the projects was the geothermal power plant in Apas Kiri involving a private investor investment of RM500 million and capable of generating 30 MWe (during the first phase of the project).
He said although it involved a large private sector investment, the government had put in 10 per cent of the investment value. He hopes the project will have a positive impact on Malaysia's economy.
