The Rantau Dedap geothermal power project in Muara Enim and Kota Pagar Alam, South Sumatera, has entered exploitation well drilling phase.

The inauguration of Well RD-I3, the first exploitation well of the Rantau Dedap geothermal power project, was conducted on Saturday.

The drilling of the RD-I3 well is the first of the plan to drill 16 exploitation wells. The wells consist of 14 production wells and two injection wells with estimated capacity of 7.8 MW per well.

In addition, the exploitation activities will also be conducted simultaneously with the first phase construction of Rantau Dedap Geothermal Power Plant with capacity of 86 MW by the consortium of Rekayasa Industri and Fuji Electric Co.

The geothermal power plant will developed over two phases, with overall capacity of 220 MW. The first phase of development of 86 MW is estimated to obtain commercial on date (COD) in mid 2020, with the second phase of 134 MW targeted COD by 2025.
