Australia: Queensland Outback Towns Want Geothermal Energy

#GoQld: Local governments’ wish list to be put to new minister (Courier Mail)

A geothermal power system for the bush and a network of agricultural export hubs are among a wish list of innovations drawn up by council leaders from around the state.

They want to see a $3 million pilot project in Winton to generate energy, using water of 80°C plus from the Great Artesian Basin, expanded to Longreach, Normanton, Quilpie and Thargomindah.

“Backed by solar and battery storage, there is tremendous potential for those communities to become sustainable and self-sufficient,” Local Government Association of Queensland president Mark Jamieson said.
