Mexico will announce the winners of the second auction for long-term electric power generation contracts on September 30, the energy ministry (SENER) has announced.
The auction will follow the same model as the first one, held March 30, with firms competing for long-term contracts with state utility ComisiĆ³n Federal de Electricidad (CFE).
CFE may also participate as an electricity generator, Sener said.
The auction will focus on renewable energy generation in a bid to open up Mexico's energy mix and lessen the country's dependency on fossil fuels. The auction will facilitate investment in solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal generation.
