Japan: Organic Rankine Cycle Geothermal Plant Opens at Hot Spring Resort

Commissioned Geothermal Power+ Opening Ceremony (News Release)

This month, ElectraTherm visited the U.S. Embassy in Japan before hosting the Opening Ceremony for the commissioning of a Power+ Generator 4400 at a hot spring (onsen) in Japan. It is the first unit in the country utilizing geothermal heat to generate fuel-free, emission-free electricity that is sold back to the utility at an attractive feed-in tariff rate for renewables.

ElectraTherm utilizes Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and proprietary technologies to generate power from low temperature heat. At this site, the onsen is using geothermal heat which provides a continuous hot water flow that provides baseload power generation capabilities 24/7.
