Science & Technology: New Tech Uses CO2 to Transmit Geothermal Heat

TerraCOH Solution - Carbon Dioxide Plume Geothermal (CPG)™

TerraCOH’s mission is to produce environmentally-friendly, low-cost electrical power using proprietary CO2 Plume Geothermal (CPG)™ technology. Broad patents have issued in the United States and key countries, granting TERRACOH exclusive rights to below-ground use of any non-water based working fluid for power production.

TerraCOH’s proprietary technology was developed at the University of Minnesota in the Geofluids group, led by Dr. Martin Saar and Dr. Jimmy Randolph. Unlike traditional geothermal energy production which uses water as it working fluid for heat transfer, the technology, called Carbon Dioxide Plume Geothermal (CPG)™, utilizes stored supercritical carbon dioxide as its working fluid. Supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) is carbon dioxide gas which has been placed under pressure which turns the gas into a liquid. This liquid can then be handled in a manner similar to water for injection into deep storage reservoirs.
