Chena Renewable Energy Fair Celebrates 10-year Milestone (KTVA.com)



Every August, hundreds of people are drawn to Chena Hot Springs near Fairbanks. Many who make the pilgrimage to the annual Chena Renewable Energy Fair believe there’s a better way than fossil fuels. Others come in search of ways to save energy.

Wind, solar, geothermal and biofuels are the latest in greenhouse lighting and cold weather construction. Most of these technologies have come a long way since the fair began 10 years ago.

“The most valuable thing we have done is sparked people’s imagination, to imagine they can do it,” said GRC member Bernie Karl, founder of the energy fair and co-owner of the resort with his wife, Connie.

Over the years, Karl has showcased breakthroughs in geothermal energy, which heats and generates power for his resort and experimental greenhouses.
