The 2015 Joint Assembly, 3-7 May 2015, The Palais des Congrès de Montréal
Geothermal energy in Canada is mainly used for heating and cooling buildings with ground source heat pumps. Deep sedimentary basins, however, host an additional potential for power generation from subsurface fluids of moderate temperature (100 - 150°C). Binary geothermal power plants using ORC technology can produce electricity. Utilization of both shallow and deep geothermal resources can contribute to reduce greenhouse gases.
Participants are invited to present talks and posters on different topics related to geothermal resources of sedimentary basins: exploration methods (geology, geochemistry, geophysics), characterization of reservoir and hot sedimentary aquifer, geothermal resources assessment, reservoir modeling and development, direct use of energy, power generation, monitoring. Presentation of case studies of direct use and power generation in other geological environment (volcanic and basement rocks) are welcomed.
