Chilean firm GGE Spa Chile yesterday filed an environmental impact declaration for the USD-330-million (EUR 249m) geothermal power plant San Gregorio, located between the country's Bio Bio and Araucania regions.
The project envisages the construction of a 70 MW geothermal plant, whose future electricity output will be supplied to Chile's central power grid SIC.
Chile's mining ministry awarded the concession to GGE Spa Chile in January 2010. The concession covers an area of 7,800 ha (19,274 acres). The company has evaluated the geothermal potential of the area with technical studies and deep drillings.
The environmental impact declaration will be analysed until August 23, 2012.
