Education: Educational Poster Explaining Geothermal Energy Available for Downloading - The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) is pleased to announce a new poster aimed at helping educate middle-schoolers on geothermal energy and help spread the word of the industry’s technologies and mission to the general public.

Monday, August 5
USA, Nevada: Ormat Announces 7 MW AC Solar Expansion of Tungsten Mountain Geothermal Project - The electricity generated from the Tungsten Solar power plant will be used to offset the equipment’s energy use at the Tungsten geothermal facility, thus increasing the renewable energy delivered by the project under the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) portfolio contract.

USA: NREL Updates Baseline Cost and Performance Data for Geothermal Technologies- Geothermal technology cost and performance projections have been updated with analysis and results from the GeoVision: Harnessing the Heat Beneath our Feet report (DOE, 2019).

Philippines: MakBan Geothermal Power Plant Supplies 17 MW to Nestlé Facilities - Aboitiz Power informed the Philippine Stock Exchange that the 17-megawatt aggregated energy demand of the Nestlé facilities is supplied by the MakBan geothermal power plant in the provinces of Laguna and Batangas.

Tuesday, August 6
Canada: Drilling Begins at Closed Loop Geothermal Power System Demonstration Project - The first well for this facility began drilling on Friday, August 2nd, 2019 and the second began drilling Sunday, August 4th, 2019.

USA: "The Enhancing Geothermal Production on Federal Lands Act will streamline the federal permitting process, unleashing the nation’s geothermal potential”. This bill will bring geothermal to parity with oil and gas exploration on public lands.

Wednesday, August 7
USA, Nevada: Ormat On Track to Add Approximately 120 MW to 135 MW Geothermal Capacity by the end of 2021 - We expect continued growth in the electricity segment in the second half of 2019, as our 7 MW Tungsten Solar expansion is now online. We remain on track with our near-term growth target and plan to add approximately 120 MW to 135 MW to our portfolio by the end of 2021.

Thursday, August 8
Japan: Construction of 6.5 MW Hokkaido Geothermal Power Plant to Begin - The power plant will be the largest binary cycle geothermal power plant in Japan.

USA, Hawaii: Puna Geothermal Power Plant Refurbishment Should be Completed by End of Year - Ormat CEO - We expect that our power plant refurbishment activities including the work on the substation will be completed on schedule by the end of the year.

Friday, August 9
Netherlands: Opportunity to Research the Deep Geothermal Resources of the Westland Triassic Sandstones - PhD Position in Geothermal Energy Research (Delft University of Technology). The objective of this project is to quantify the reservoir properties of Triassic sandstones in Southern Netherlands at depths beyond 1500m in order to assess uncertainty and reduce the risks for future deep geothermal operations.
