New Zealand: Contact Energy Supplies Geothermal Heat to Local Industries

Here at Contact we’ve recently signed two large direct heat supply agreements with wood industry customers who operate near our Wairakei geothermal plant in Taupō. We’ve renewed our partnership with Tenon Sawmill and signed up our newest customer, Nature’s Flame.

We’ve worked with Tenon since 2007, supplying direct geothermal heat for their manufacturing operations and kiln drying timber and have now agreed a new 20 year supply agreement.

Our latest customer, Nature’s Flame produce a carbon neutral wood pellet fuel alternative to coal. Wood fibre in the form of sawdust and shavings is obtained from sawmill operations in the central North Island; the fibre is dried, resized and then compacted to form a durable, low moisture, low ash, energy dense fuel which burns efficiently and cleanly.
