Global: Nominations Deadline for International Geothermal Awards is Next Week - The GRC awards recognize distinguished colleagues in the geothermal community from around the world and have been a highlight of the geothermal calendar since the late 1970’s. The deadline for nominations is June 14, 2019.

Monday, June 3

USA: DOE to Fund International Geothermal Research and Development Consortium - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced it will contribute up to $2 million in available funding through a joint Call for Proposals to advance geothermal research and development through a new partnership with more than a dozen European countries.

Europe: EGEC Geothermal Market Report Confirms Trend Towards Steady Growth - Core markets have continued carrying developments in geothermal electricity, large geothermal heating and cooling projects and deployment of small scale geothermal heating and cooling systems.

Mexico: Tender Issued to Drill Two Wells at the Los Azufres Geothermal Field - Mexican state power utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has launched a second call to drill two wells at the Los Azufres geothermal field in the state of Michoacán to increase steam supply to generation units following a decline in steam output.

USA: Department of Commerce Suggests R&D Into Sourcing Critical Materials from Geothermal Brine - Report includes suggestion for R&D into "unconventional sources (minerals obtained from sources such as mine tailings, coal byproducts, extraction from seawater, and geothermal brines)".

USA, Nevada: Silver State to Survey for More Geothermal Resources - NV SCR1 calls for an interim study of renewable and clean energy resources. Sponsors hope to take advantage of more of the state's geothermal resources.

USA: Support team Announced for Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy - As part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) initiative, a diverse group of experts has been formed to support the Utah FORGE team.

USA: Geothermal Technologies Office Update Webinar - Wednesday, June 19, 2019. 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET. Register Now for GTO's Second Quarterly Update of 2019. The webinar will focus on keeping the geothermal community fully updated on progress at the U.S. Department of Energy, with Dr. Hamm highlighting ongoing efforts within GTO.

Latin America: Webinar Discussion on Geothermal Potential in Chile and Argentina - Geothermal in the Southern Cone: The New Frontier? (New Energy Events) Thursday, June 13, 2019 7:00 AM. - 7:45 AM PDT.

Science & Technology: Geothermal District Heating Networks Produce Little Carbon - Study- We calculate that the carbon intensity of the heat produced is 9.7–14.0 kg(CO2e) MWhth which is 4.9–7.3% of the emissions from heat from natural gas.
