USA, California: Geothermal Energy Helps the Golden State through Another Bad Weather Day

Geothermal Energy Again Tops Wind and Solar in California

Yesterday much of the Central Valley was socked in by the Tule fog and cloudiness prevailed in both Northern and Southern California. There was a little rain in the north. This all affected electricity production from wind and solar as measured by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO).

However, geothermal energy power plants were not affected, providing electricity from a constant 1,000 MW capacity.

Yesterday in California, geothermal energy was the biggest provider of electricity from renewable resources to the CAISO grid, with almost 24,000 MWh. Wind-turbines produced just 9,152 MWh, solar energy (PV and thermal) peaked around 1 pm and supplied 21,624 MWh.
