Optimization of Geothermal Energy Production (LinkedIn)

By William Harrar, Reservoir Engineer

Many of the sedimentary basins throughout the world contain several geothermal reservoirs that are potentially attractive for the production of geothermal energy. The big question is which reservoir to develop for the production of geothermal energy?

Last week, I attended the German Geothermal Congress in Essen and gave a presentation that summarizes work that my colleagues and I at Ross DK and GEOOP have been doing on evaluating geothermal energy projects with the objectives of maximizing geothermal energy production, while minimizing risk and cost.

In summary, for basins filled with clastic sediments, shallow low temperature reservoirs may be the optimal targets for maximizing geothermal energy production while minimizing risk and cost.
