Kenya: KenGen Breaks Ground on 83 MW Olkaria 1 Unit 6 Geothermal Power Plant - The electricity generator said the addition of the plant will push up its geothermal capacity which currently stands at 533.8 MW following the completion of Olkaria 1, 4 and five plants which are also due for expansion.

United Arab Emirates: Global Geothermal Alliance to Meet in Abu Dhabi - 12 January, 13:15-14:15, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) is a partner of the Global Geothermal Alliance.

Climate Change: Renewables have Grown This Year, but Not Keeping Pace with Rise in CO2 - The research, carried out by the Global Carbon Project (GCP), says that this year's "strong" rise is projected to be 2.7%.

USA, Nevada: Ormat Plans 18 MW of Solar PV to Power Tungsten Geothermal Power Plant Parasitic Electric Load - The plan is to develop up to two 9 MW-DC plants and a short transmission line (gentie line) connecting the solar facility to the geothermal component.

USA: Government Plans to Strip Away Protections for Sage Grouse - In one stroke, the action would open more land to drilling than any other step the administration has taken, environmental policy experts said.

United Kingdom: First Borehole Underway at UK Geoenergy Observatory for Glasgow - The first borehole is underway at the UK Geoenergy Observatory for Glasgow, allowing scientists to 'see' underground at the world-class geothermal energy research site in the east end of the city.
