Chile: Director of Centro de Excelencia en Geotermia de los Andes Urges Geothermal Energy to Replace Coal

Sin carbón ¿quién podrá salvarnos?: la geotermia - Without coal, who can save us ?: geothermal (El Mostrador)

Diego Morata, Ph.D.

(From Google Translate) There is only one type of clean energy in Chile capable of supplying the contribution that coal makes today: geothermal energy, the heat of the Earth. It is true that a large part of these 5,000 MWe of coal could be replaced by solar energy, the most popular and popular renewable energy. But solar is an intermittent energy. Geothermal energy delivers basic energy, constant, all day, all night, without intermittence by the weather or the seasons. The developed countries with whom we like to compare ourselves have been using this energy for more than 100 years.
