USA: More than One Million Dollars Available for Geothermal Energy Research - Grant applications are sought in the following subtopics: Low Enthalpy Geothermal Forward Osmosis; Dispatchable Geothermal Operations.

United Kingdom: Work Begins on Scotland’s first Deep Geothermal Heating System - A ceremonial groundbreaking has kickstarted work on the £65 million HALO urban regeneration project in Kilmarnock.

Tuesday, December 5
Ethiopia: Experts Sought in Geothermal Licensing and Permitting Processes - Each volunteer will be responsible for developing 3-4 presentations and assisting with facilitating discussions throughout the partnership exchange.

South Africa: Five Promising Geothermal Regions Identified - Local geologist Taufeeq Dhansay and a group of five fellow scientists from the Council of Geoscience and Nelson Mandela University believe that the government is overlooking significant volumes of buried Earth heat, which could be tapped to generate renewable energy.

Wednesday, December 6
USA: Electricity from Geothermal Energy Increases by 2.9% Year on Year - California generated 8,763 GWh an increase of 3.3%, Nevada 2,490 GWh - increase of 1.5%, Utah 343 GWh - a decrease of 2.4%, Oregon 142 GWh - up 13.6%, Hawaii 188 GWh - up 5.2%. Idaho - 51 GWh (down 3.9%) and New Mexico - 10 GWh (down 4.9%) round off the list.

Europe: New Report Surveys Supply Chain for Geothermal Energy - The European market is still dominated by conventional dry steam/flash technology (65% of installed capacity). However, the majority of recent installations are binary power plants.

Global: How United Nations Framework Classification for Resources Applies to Geothermal Energy - This publication includes a set of 14 case studies on the applications of United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) to geothermal energy from Australia, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines and Russian Federation.

Ethiopia: Tender to Supply Drilling Rigs for Aluto Langano Geothermal Power Project to Open Soon - The full tender will be available between January-February 2018.

Friday, December 8
USA: Legislation Could Enhance Geothermal Production on Federal Lands - H.R. 4568 would reduce regulatory approval waiting times for small exploratory wells from about 10 months to two months or less.

Philippines: Testing and Commissioning of 12 MW Maibarara-2 Geothermal Power Project to Begin Shortly - The testing and commissioning of Maibarara-2 is estimated to start by middle of December. Export of power to the grid is expected soon after commissioning starts.
