The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) Geothermal Library contains over 40,000 records on all aspects of geothermal energy, including exploration, reservoir engineering, power plant design and operation, direct use, geothermal heat pumps, regulatory issues, energy policy, energy markets, news briefs, and more. Now includes all 212 Transactions papers from the 2017 GRC Annual Meeting.

Monday, November 13
Global: 41st GRC Annual Meeting Best Geothermal Energy Presentations Announced - The GRC has added all the papers associated with the technical session presentations to the GRC Geothermal Library.

New Zealand: Work Begins on 28 MW Ngawha Geothermal Power Station Expansion- Providing a viable geothermal resource is found, the next stage will be earthworks for the power station itself. Stage 1 of the project, building a 28 MW power plant, was due to be completed in June 2021.

Antarctica: New Map Shows Geothermal Heat Below Continent - This is the best map yet produced of the warmth coming up from the rocks underneath the Antarctic ice sheet. This "geothermal heat flux" is key data required by scientists in order to model how the White Continent is going to react to climate change.

USA, California: GreenFire Energy Gets Shell Support for Demo Closed Loop Geothermal Power Project - GreenFire Energy Inc.’s innovative ECO2G™ geothermal well retrofit technology will enable geothermal project owners to generate power from idle or marginal wells at low risk and attractive cost per MWh.

Vietnam: Time to Study Geothermal Energy Potential - Minister - Việt Nam’s national energy development plan does not include geothermal sources, but a senior official said yesterday that it was time to study their potential in the country.

USA: Hope for Geothermal Energy in Tax Bill Amendments - Contrary to reports that "orphaned tech" like geothermal energy was not being considered in the current Tax Bill by the US Congress, Sen. Dean Heller (R) of Nevada has suggested amendments that would level the playing field for geothermal power.

Philippines: EDC Brings Leyte Geothermal Power Plants Back Online After Earthquake - All major units have been brought back to service, except for two 60 MW units in its Mahanagdong geothermal plant.

Thursday, November 16
Finance: USD 50 Million in Loans Available for Renewable Energy Projects - IRENA in partnership with ADFD, is inviting applications for renewable energy projects in developing countries.

USA: FERC Could Direct Grid Operators to Compensate Resources for "Resilience Attributes" - Language aimed at propping up the coal and nuclear power industries could also benefit other baseload generators such as geothermal energy.

Friday, November 17
Iceland: 45 MW Phase I Theistareykir Geothermal Power Plant Begins Operations - The plant's 1st phase commissioned today is 45 MW and the 2nd phase of another 45 MW will be on-line in April 2018.

USA, Hawaii: Geothermalist Nicole Lautze Wins Clean Energy Education & Empowerment Award - Among the women recognized and receiving awards was Nicole Lautze in the Education category, an associate faculty member at the University of Hawaii Manoa, where she founded the Hawaii Groundwater and Geothermal Resources Center.
