The City of Boise is looking to expand its use of geothermal heating by twenty percent.

The City has applied for a junior water right that would allow for an additional 75-million gallons of geothermal water per year, making the total water right 385-million gallons.

The goal is to add two or three large buildings each year to the grid which equates to roughly 10-million gallons of geothermal water.

The number of government and commercial buildings using geothermal heat is 91 with over 5-million square feet being heated.

Buildings most recently added to the Geothermal District are the new Marriott hotel downtown, the Idaho State Historical Building, and Jack’s Urban Meeting Place.
