Mexico: Grupo Enal Develops a 500 kW Geothermal Portable Power Plant - After further engineering and hard work, Enal has now developed a 500 kW geothermal portable power plant that is ready to be tested in real life conditions.

United Kingdom: Geothermal District Heating Scheme Would Use Disused Mines Below Glasgow - Plans for a new Geothermal Energy Research Field in Glasgow will be unveiled next month. The proposed £9m Glasgow Geothermal Energy Research Field will either site on the Clyde Gateway area in the east end of the city, or in Rutherglen and will focus on geothermal energy.

Ethiopia: 500 MW Corbetti Geothermal Project to Launch by End of Year - The Corbetti Geothermal project, near Shashemene town is finally to take off the ground.

USA, California: Calpine Successfully Re-Contracts 225 MW PPA for Geothermal Energy from The Geysers- Southern California Edison (SCE), has re-contracted for 225 megawatts with Geysers Power Company, LLC for 225 MW of geothermal over 10 years.

USA, Nevada: Exploratory Drilling to Begin This Fall in Great Basin Geothermal Play Fairway Project - The University of Nevada, Reno received funding to begin drilling geothermal test wells this fall in the final phase of a multi-year research project to refine exploration strategies and reduce the risks in developing new geothermal systems capable of producing commercial electricity in Nevada's Great Basin.

New Zealand: Contact Energy Ltd Gains Climate Bonds Certification for Geothermal Assets - Listed New Zealand company Contact Energy Ltd has gained Climate Bonds Certification of geothermal assets as part of its new Green Loan Borrowing Programme for NZD1.8bn (USD1.3bn).

USA, Nevada: Cyrq Energy Adds Solar PV Array to Patua Geothermal Power Plant - Empower Energies, Inc., has announced the completion of the Patua solar power project, a 14.5 MW DC solar array in Churchill County, Nevada. The project supplements an existing geothermal power plant owned by Cyrq Energy, a Salt Lake City based renewable energy company.

Finance: Auctions Drive Down the Price of Renewable Energy - IRENA Report - Chile, Mexico, Morocco, Peru and the United Arab Emirates achieved record price lows with solar and wind auctions in 2016. Along with falling technology costs, policy support and improved access to finance have helped drive accelerating renewable energy development.

USA, California: License Terminated for Black Rock Geothermal Power Plant - CalEnergy has asked the California Energy Commission to terminate the license for the Black Rock geothermal project rather than pay a $27,678 annual compliance fee that would have been due at the end of June.

USA, Wyoming: NASA Suggests Geothermal Power Plants Around Yellowstone - National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has conceived a plan to drill up to 10km down into the supervolcano, and pump down water at high pressure.
