Iceland: Mid-Summer Music Festival is Powered by Geothermal Energy

Secret Solstice, Iceland’s leading music festival, has announced its initial line-up for 2017 (Mixmag)

From June 16 to 18, thousands will flock to the capital city of Reykjavik to hear the sounds of Kerri Chandler, The Prodigy, Dusky, Dubfire, Novelist (pictured), Kiasmos, Soul Clap and John Acquaviva, plus The Foo Fighters and many more.

One of the things that sets Secret Solstice apart from almost all other major music festivals on planet Earth is the use of geothermal energy. While almost all events rely heavily on things like diesel-burning generators, or non-renewable sources of mains power to bring music to the masses, the on-site energy needs are provided by Mother Nature herself, in the form of volcano-powered and 100%-renewable geothermal power. This is one of the major factors that allows the event to go green much easier than most of the planet’s major music festivals.
