Bolivia has committed to diversifying its energy supply, and if all goes according to plan geothermal will be an integral part of their profile. Geothermal exploration at the Laguna Colorado site – close to the border of Chile – is set to begin in 2017 with the support of LaGeo from El Salvador. The plant could be up and running by 2019, barring any complications.

The overall development potential is described at 100 MW with a required investment of $613 million. Funding will largely come from international donors and financial institutions, including JICA (Japan).
