Professor Rosalind Archer, Head of the Department of Engineering Science at University of Auckland, has been presented with the inaugural Energy Engineer of the Year award at the 2016 Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards last night.

Professor Archer sees her win as “a wonderful surprise – the award also recognizes the energy and support of a large cast of staff and students at the University whom I have the pleasure to work with. It raises the profile of the University in the energy sector, which is helpful for many of us.”

The Energy Engineer of the Year award is presented to standout engineers working in New Zealand who are “defined by their achievements” – this certainly applies to Professor Archer, who in addition to her responsibilities as Head of Department also holds the Mighty River Power Chair in geothermal reservoir engineering and is director of the Geothermal Institute. She was named a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) last year.
