Tanzania: 200 MW Geothermal by 2020

Tanzania looks into geothermal energy (ESI Africa)

Sospeter Muhongo, minister of energy and minerals, has ordered the Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC) to begin drilling three holes in the Lake Ngozi area.

Business Week reported that in 2015, TGDC general manager Boniface Njobe said Tanzania has identified 50 potential areas across the country where 5,000 MW of geothermal power could be produced.

Njobe said these areas need to be explored through Public-Private Partnership arrangements, which would enable the country to produce 200 MW from geothermal by 2020.
