Mexico:

Modular Geothermal Desalination Plant is Developed in Mexico (invdes.com.mx)

The Instituto de Ingeniería Desalación y Energías Alternas (IDEA) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) has developed and tested a laboratory prototype of a modular geothermal desalination plant, which is up to 20 percent more efficient than those presently available in the market.

The plant would use heat exchangers to evaporate seawater, and the condensed steam would become a source of potable water for communities in arid regions, like those in Mexico's Baja California Peninsula.

Thanks to GRC Member Marcelo Lippmann, Staff scientist (retired) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for the news submission.
