The Peppermill Resort Spa Casino, host to the 39th GRC Annual Meeting & Expo next year, received the 2014 Sustainability Award at the Stars of the Industry Hospitality Awards Gala on Oct. 2 in Las Vegas.

All Nevada properties including Las Vegas were considered for the award chosen by the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association.

Peppermill Reno's 2 million-square-foot property is the only U.S. hotel to be heated completely by an on-site geothermal well. The resort has invested $9.7 million and completed 4,400 feet of drilling. As a result, the resort has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 12,000 metric tons per year.
